Terms of Service

Last updated: July 24, 2026

Welcome to Chesswarm. By accessing or playing Chesswarm ("we," "us," the "Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

The Service

Chesswarm is a real-time chess game where players move without turns. You can play as a guest with no account, or sign in with Google or Discord to unlock Ranked play, a public profile, and a leaderboard. The Service is provided free of charge.

Accounts

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or permanently ban any account that violates these Terms, at our sole discretion, with or without notice. Banned accounts lose access to Ranked, the leaderboard, and matchmaking.

Fair Play & Ranked Ratings

Ranked ratings are calculated automatically based on match outcomes. We may adjust, reset, or remove ratings or match results found to result from cheating, collusion, or abuse of the system.

Donations

Chesswarm accepts optional donations via Ko-fi, a third-party platform not operated by us. Donations are voluntary, processed entirely by Ko-fi under their own terms, and do not grant any in-game advantage, feature access, or ownership stake. Donations are generally non-refundable except as required by law or at our discretion.

Content You Submit

Feedback, bug reports, and display names you submit remain yours, but you grant us a license to use, display, and act on them to operate and improve the Service (for example, showing your display name on the leaderboard).

Intellectual Property

The Chesswarm name, logo, design, and game presentation are owned by us. The underlying rules of chess are, of course, not anyone's property. You may not copy, redistribute, or create a competing product from Chesswarm's code, design, or branding without permission.

No Warranty

Chesswarm is provided "as is," free of charge, without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times. Features, rules, and this Service may change or be discontinued at any time.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service. Since Chesswarm is a free, independently-run hobby project, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount (if any) you've paid us in the past 12 months.

Termination

You may stop using Chesswarm at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, including deleting your account, if you violate these Terms.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Norway, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
